If you want to start a personal website or blog, there are a number of low-cost web hosting options that won’t break the bank – I will highlight a few of the ones I have personally had experience with.

Many web hosts have introductory sign-up offers at significant savings – with some offering a free domain name to go with the package. It is advisable that you factor in the regular price after your first year, should you be happy with the service, to average out your price over the longer term.

While some companies offer discounts for 2, 3 or more years paid up front – I personally would not sign up for more than 1 year with a provider unless you are already familiar with them.

Those with high-traffic and mission critical websites like forums and e-commerce sites should look beyond shared hosting.
